Our improved PbS/CdS Near Infrared Quantum Dots range in narrow band fluorescent emission wavelengths from 900 nm to 1000 nm. These core/shell Quantum Dots have higher quantum yields (are brighter) and have greater wavelength stability relative to the core only PbS quantum dots that are commercially available. Our water soluble versions of these quantum dots aresurface coated with hydrophilic surfactants to achieve dispersion in water. Our three different water soluble forms have surfactant terminal end groups that are either a carboxylic acid (-COOH), a primary amine (-NH2), or a diol (-CHOH-CH2OH). These coatings allow covalent bonding of the QDs to a variety of molecular probes and surfaces for many fluorescent labeling applications. For example, illustrated above, is the use of QD bioconjugates for in vivo labeling as near infrared fluorescence is attenuated much less in tissue. .These QDs extend the range of near infrared fluorescence out to 1000 nm.
